8th of January 2024, London
Should a preface come before a preamble? Fuck it, this is my blog and I’ll do what I like.
After sixteen years of work, with few conscious breaks of any meaningful length, I’ve decided to go away for a while. I’ve travelled a lot for business; lived in the US, Australia and briefly in France; but spent relatively little time travelling for myself and for its own sake. Encouraged by some friends to write more, I’ve decided to document the trip as I go. This will be it, or at least I plan it to be.
Following a preamble (I’ve done it now) from New York at the end of 2023, the trip starts for real in January 2024, in Buenos Aires. For as long as I can remember, Patagonia has called and I will then be there for almost two weeks. From this Southernmost point, there’s a loose plan to travel North through South America into Central America, Mexico and possibly into the US.
I have a habit of writing about things that have little to do with what I see. So bear with me, this won’t be conventional. But I take the view that if you want to visit any of these places yourself, all the banal details you could possibly need are only an internet search away. So, I’ll stick to how these places make me feel, and the interactions and observations I have with the people and the cultures I discover along the way. Oh, and I don’t speak any Spanish.
